Today News January 28 morning news, Apple today released iOS 15.4 Beta and iPadOS 15.4 Beta. iOS 15.4 is Apple’s biggest update to iOS 15 so far, adding universal controls, mask face ID, new emojis, and more. Let’s take a look.

What’s iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 new features?

As expected, Apple followed the release of iOS 15.3 with the beta release of iOS 15.4 (and compatible applications like iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS). We are still waiting for a few key features of iOS 15 to be released this spring, and this beta finally brings the first look at Universal Control (and macOS 12.3 beta). It is hoped that, during the release of the beta test, these features will appear in iOS 15.4, but Apple may delay even more.

Mask Face ID

In iOS 15.4, there is an option to unlock the iPhone while wearing a mask, which can authenticate by verifying the area around your eyes. Students who wear glasses don’t have to worry, as long as they are not sunglasses, it can be recognized and successfully unlocked. Face ID with mask is limited to iPhone 12 and later.

Universal Control

iPadOS 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3 enable Universal Control, which lets you use a single cursor and keyboard to control iPads and Macs logged into your iCloud account.  If you have a MacBook and an iPad, the MacBook ‘s trackpad and keyboard can also be used directly on the ‌iPad‌ ‘s display. On ‌iPad‌ , the option to toggle Universal Controls is listed under Handoff & Airplay .

New Emoji “Emoji”

Spring iOS updates often bring new emojis, and iOS 15.4 is no exception. The beta version introduced support for Emoji 14, adding 37 emojis and 75 skin tones for a total of 112 new characters. New faces include melted faces, saluting faces, eyes open and hands over mouth, peeking faces, squinting faces, and dashed faces, while new emojis include lip bites and bubbles.

Turn off notifications for personal automation in shortcuts

For personal automations set up in the Shortcuts app, there is a new “Runtime Notifications” option that lets you turn notifications on or off for activated shortcuts. With this option, you can choose not to be notified when the shortcut is activated.

Apple Card widget

There’s a new Apple Card widget in the Today view that can be added to the home screen. The ‌Apple Card‌ widget can display your current balance and daily spending in different categories.

Keyboard Brightness

In iPadOS 15.4, a new keyboard brightness option can be added to Control Center to adjust the brightness of a connected keyboard. This feature works with Apple’s Magic Keyboard, but needs to be added to Control Center by going to Settings > Control Center and tapping the “+” button next to “Keyboard Brightness.”

iCloud Keychain Notes

iCloud‌ Keychain users can now annotate any password entry, making iCloud‌ Keychain more in line with other password storage options. On iPhone‌ and iPad‌, the iCloud‌ keychain can be accessed in the Settings app under Passwords.

120Hz animations in third-party apps on iPhone 13 Pro

After the iPhone 13 Pro model came out, in fact, many third-party applications did not display all animations at the full refresh rate of 120Hz ProMotion. In iOS 15.4, all animations in the app will be displayed at 120Hz, and users can get a smoother and smoother app experience.

Share Play

In apps that support SharePlay, there is now an option to activate it directly from the share sheet.

Trade-in Scan

Code in iOS 15.4 suggests that Apple is working on a “Cosmetic Scan” feature that will be available in ‌iPhone‌ deals. Cosmetic scans may be used to check for scratches and other damage on the ‌iPhone‌ to provide a more accurate trade-in estimate.

Notes app for iPadOS

In the Notes section of the ‌iPad‌’s Settings app, under Quick Notes, there’s a new “Corner Gestures” section with options for top-left swipe and bottom-right swipe. Options include quick notes or screenshots, and there’s an option to turn off corner swiping.

TV application customization

In the TV section of the Settings app under Preferences, you can now select the Still Frame or Poster Art options for the app’s Up Next Display. Still frames show a still frame of what you’re watching, while poster art shows the main title image of a show or movie.

Passkey website login

Apple says the iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 betas add a new passcode feature that will allow you to authenticate with your ‌iPhone‌ without entering a passcode on websites that allow authentication via Face ID or Touch ID.

Game Controller

According to Apple’s release notes, the new DualSense Adaptive Trigger firmware feature is supported.

Vaccination records in the Health app

Health records now support the addition of vaccination records in EU digital COVID certificate format to the Health and Wallet app, and users in the EU can add their vaccination cards to the Wallet app for easy access.
