SharePlay

  • SharePlay is a new way to share synchronized information on FaceTime with content from the Apple TV app, Apple Music, and other supported apps.
  • Shared controls give everyone the ability to pause, play, undo or move faster.
  • Smart volume automatically reduces the sound of a movie, TV program or song while you or your friends are talking.
  • Screen Sharing allows everyone on the FaceTime phone to view photos, browse the web, or help each other.

Apple Music voice system

  • Apple Music Voice Plan is a new subscription section that gives you access to all the songs, playlists, and channels on Apple Music using Siri.
  • Just ask Siri to suggest music based on your listening history and likes or dislikes.
  • Play It Again lets you access a list of recently played music.

Photos

  • Memories have been redesigned with new interactions, new animations and changing styles, and more photo collages.
  • New Types of Memory include additional international holidays, child-centered memories, styles over time, and enhanced memories of pets.

Messages

  • The social security system gives parents the ability to heed children’s warnings when they receive or send nude pictures.

Hide My Email is available in the Mail app for iCloud + subscribers to create unique, random email addresses
Stocks allow you to view the currency of a tick and see the performance of the year so far when looking at the charts
Reminders and notes now allow you to delete or rename tags

Important Bug Fixes

  • Fixes an issue where the Desktop and Screen Saver may appear empty after selecting photos from the photo library.
  • Fixes an issue where Trackpad may not respond to a tap or click.
  • Fixes an issue where external displays may not charge other MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers when connected via Thunderbolt or USB-C.
  • Fixes an issue where HDR video playback on YouTube.com may cause Mac21 Pro 2021 computers to panic.
  • Fixes an issue where additional menu bar may be hidden by camera housing on 2021 MacBook Pro computers.
  • Fixes an issue where MagSafe may stop charging on 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro computers if the lid is closed and the system is closed.

Additional Changes

Unfortunately, the one feature that was promised before the end of the year, Universal Control, is not on the macOS Monterey 12.1 board. On its MacOS Monterey website, the company says it expects Universal Control to launch sometime in the spring of 2022.
