With a simple glance, Face ID securely unlocks your iPhone or iPad Pro. You can use it to authorize purchases from iTunes Store, App Store, and Bookstore, payments via Apple Pay, and more. Developers may also allow you to use Face ID to sign in to their applications. Applications that support Touch ID automatically support Face ID.

Here some steps for How to setup Face ID on your iPhone or iPad Pro:

Setup Face ID

Make sure nothing covers the TrueDepth camera or your face. If there is an obstruction to your nose or mouth – such as glasses or a face mask – you may be asked to temporarily remove these items during setup.

You can also use Face ID and face masks when using iPhone 12 or later with iOS 15.4 and later. Face ID works best if your iPhone or iPad is about 10–20 inches from your face.

To set Face ID:

  1. Go to Settings, then tap Face ID and passcode. If requested, enter your passcode. If you did not set a passcode, you will be asked to create one that you will use as an alternative to authentication.
  2. Tap Set Face ID.
  3. Hold your device in standing position, position your face in front of your device, and press Start.
  4. Position your face inside the frame and move your head gently to complete the circle. If you can’t remove your head, tap Access Options.
  5. When you have finished scanning the first Face ID, tap Continue.
  6. Move your head gently to complete the second circle.
  7. Tap Done.

To select the features you want to use Face ID or reset Face ID, go to Settings, then tap Face ID & Password Code.

Unlock your iPhone or iPad with Face ID

Suggest to wake up or tap to wake up your iPhone or iPad.
Swipe up from the bottom Lock screen.
If you are using an iPhone, hold it in position, and look at it. On the iPad, you can capture it by height or geographical shape. When in geographical location, make sure your finger does not turn off the TrueDepth camera. Then look at the screen. On the iPad if you are wearing a face mask that covers your mouth and nose, you will be asked to enter your passcode after swiping up.

To turn this feature on or off, go to Settings, then tap Face ID and passcode, then tap iPhone Unlock or iPad Unlock.

Use Face ID to make purchases

You can use Face ID to verify purchases via Apple Pay and the iTunes Store, the App Store, and the Book Store in Apple Books.

Use Face ID with Apple Pay

To make a purchase in a store:

  1. Make sure you use an iPhone.
  2. Make sure Apple Pay is set up and turned on in Settings> Face ID & Passcode.

  4. Look at your iPhone to confirm with Face ID. If you are wearing a face and nose mask but

To purchase within the app or website in Safari:

  2. When you are asked to pay, double-click the sidebar, then look at your iPhone or iPad. If you are wearing a face and nose mask but Face ID with mask is not set, tap Pay with Password and enter your passcode.
  3. Wait Done with the check mark to display.

You may be asked to enter your Apple ID password on your first purchase at an iTunes store, App Store, or bookstore.

Sign in with Face ID

You can use Face ID to sign in to other apps and automatically fill in the usernames and passwords of websites in Safari.

Sign in to applications

You can use Face ID to sign in to apps that support Touch ID login. Here’s how:

  1. Open the app and press login.
  2. When prompted, allow the app to use your username or password.
  3. Look at your iPhone or iPad to sign in.

To see and manage which applications use Face ID to sign in, go to Settings> Face ID & Passcode and tap Other Apps.

If you are using an application that supports Face ID but you are not required to use Face ID to sign in, you may need to sign in to the app first.

Automatically fill in passwords in Safari

You can use Face ID to automatically fill in the saved usernames and passwords of websites in Safari. Just go to Settings> Face ID & Passcode and open Default Password Fill. Then follow these steps:

  1. Open Safari and go to website.
  2. Tap the sign-in field. If you see your username or password appear above the keyboard, tap it.
  3. Look in your iPhone or iPad to automatically fill in your username and password.
