If you have an Android device, there is a simple way to make YouTube play in the background on your computer. One option is to use “Desktop Mode” when accessing the YouTube website from your Android phone or tablet.

  1. To start, open up the Chrome browser on your Android device and head to YouTube. Then, in the top-right corner of the screen, tap the three-dot menu button and pick “Request desktop site”.
  2. To watch a specific video, search for it. Once you find the video, press the Home button to minimise the tab.
  3. Now bring out the control panel of your android phone. There you will find a notification tab about the video on youtube.
  4. There, you will be required to press the “play” button. Done!

The video’s audio should be played now without the visual. You can do something on the phone without impacting the audio. To stop it, simply bring the control panel again and press the play button like earlier.

  1. Enable PiP by navigating to Settings on your device. Next, tap on Apps.
  2. In the list of apps, find the Youtube app. After that, press on it.
  3. To allow YouTube to play picture-in-picture, scroll down to the YouTube app and tap it. Next, select ‘Allowed’ under Picture-in-picture at the bottom of the screen. This will enable YouTube to operate in picture-in-picture mode.
  4. Now launch Youtube. Tap the home button while observing a video on the YouTube app to open PiP (picture-in-picture) mode.

In this mode, the video will occur in a little window that you can drive around your display with your finger. The audio will also continue playing as you open other apps. You can also change the window size by dragging the window’s bottom right corner.

Use an Alternative Browser on The iOS Device

If you desire to play YouTube media in the backdrop on your iDevice, you can also use a different browser than Safari, like Opera or others that support the PIP mode. PiP (Picture-in-Picture) mode is unavailable on YouTube for iOS devices.

To do this, Follow the below steps:

1. Open the App Store and download one of the alternative browsers, such as Opera or Dolphin, for iOS. Many of these apps are free, and some will even enable you to play YouTube videos while using other applications on your iPhone or iPad.

2. Launch your alternative browser and open a new tab. Go to YouTube and find the tape you desire to play in the backdrop. Once it initiates, you can invert to a separate app or turn off your screen, and the video will halt.

3. Now, bring out the control centre. There you will find a music player with an option to control the playback in the control centre. Press play.

That’s it; now the audio will keep playing even when you are on the other apps, or the phone is in sleep mode. Please note that you simply cannot expect this on any web browser. Before picking a browse, you must pick a browse that has the PIP mode enabled to watch the video in a minimised window.
